This is probably the question I've been asking myself THE MOST since I became interested in fashion.

"Before you do anything else in terms of fashion, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DEFINE YOUR STYLE!"

That is what all the fashion magazines, books and TV programs for women have been screaming since I was a teenager. Afterwards, they would give you a list of styles to select from: feminine, masculine, romantic, preppy or whatever else. They'd even manage to connect your style with you body type, your weight, your face and your hair color, and even age!

Well, me personally? - I've always failed doing that. That has always seemed such a boring thing to do - limiting yourself to just one style.

For example, at first, I was crazy about romantic dresses. Only, after a couple of years of wearing them non-stop, they bored me to death. Now I don't even want to look at them! Does it mean I lost my style?! Well, even if I did - I don't care! There are so many interesting styles in the world I haven't tried yet! Fashion designers keep introducing new shapes, new trends, new color combinations, new materials. And my own brain is not asleep or dead: it keeps searching for new outfit ideas, it finds unexpected inspiration, its creativity and curiousity never rests!

And so does EVERY woman's brain! We are all alive, and creative, we grow personally all the time, we learn new things all the time, we discover ourselves all the time, we go through  joys and tragedies in our lives. Therefore, by no means we can stick to the same style all the time! The way you dress is only defined by two things: your TASTE and your CONFIDENCE. Your taste is like a guardian: it won't let you go beyond situation-appropriate limits, and your confidence will do the rest! I wrote a post about taste a while ago, and here is the link. As for the confidence, I will leave this topic for  a separate post - looking forward to discussing that one in detail!

As for today's outfit: why did I choose this topic for this outfit? Well, because it sort of combines my "style" and my "lack of style" at the same time. The ruffle silk top, the full skirt and the blazer all represent something the closest to what I consider to be "me" - feminine and romantic. But then I added the wedge sneakers! First of all, they are neither feminine, nor romantic. Second, they are something I would have never worn a couple of years ago - I thought they were ugly and unflattering. And then my mind changed, and I went and bought these "ugly" sneakers making them my most expensive footwear purchase ever! And third, until recently, I would have never worn these kind of shoes with a full skirt. I would have never worn them with any skirt at all!

So, this is what I am trying to say by this post: you style changes and evolves and grows up with your personality. It is like a fun and interesting journey, and you never know where it takes you next.

  1. I couldn't agree more with you, Olga. Following rules is boring and so pointless. It takes all the fun away. Love your OOTD, so girly.
